About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and hard-working school team. Duties will include working with whole classes, small groups, 1:1 support and supporting children with additional needs.Is familiar with or willing to learn EYFS and KS1 Curriculums.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of individual Education / Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of individual Education and Behaviour Plans, as well as Personal Care programmes.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Assist with pupil’s personal, behavioural and social development through appropriate guidance and advice, within the context of the teacher’s overriding responsibility for behaviour management. Take a constructive role in preventing/minimising the effects of emotional and behavioural incidents.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievements under the guidance of the Teacher.
  • Support pupils at lunchtime daily.
  • To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the Teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievements/progress as directed.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to Teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems, etc.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with school policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour.
  • Establish constructive relationships with Parents / Carers.
  • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work.
  • Provide clerical/administrative support, e.g., photocopying, typing, filing, collection of money, administering of coursework, etc.
  • Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching & intervention programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses.
    Undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies, e.g. Literacy, Numeracy, KS1, Early Years, recording achievements and progress and feeding back to the Teacher.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
  • Prepare, maintain, and use the equipment and resources required to meet lesson plans and relevant learning activities, and assist pupils in their use.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person in accordance with policy.
  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/aims of the school.
  • Support the role of other professionals.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities, as well as performance development, as required.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the Teacher.

Once qualified, you will be able to apply for other permanent Teaching Assistant roles.

About the Training

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve the following:

Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard
The apprenticeship will be delivered through team meetings every 4-6 weeks and workplace observations, in addition to your job role.
There is no day release required for this training
