About the Role

This role focuses on learning and applying engineering principles, in real-world projects, under the mentorship of experienced engineers, whilst working towards a relevant qualification. The role provides opportunities for both personal and professional development, with the apprentice enrolled in a structured training program.

Role & responsibilities:

Over the length of the programme, you will:

  • Assist in the design, development, program and test of mission critical innovative solutions under the guidance of more experienced Engineers
  • Work as an integral team member contributing to the resolution of hardware and software challenges
  • Support in the design and configuration of cyber-secure infrastructure and communications between solution components using industry-standard protocols
  • Support the installation and commissioning of solutions on customer sites
  • Working towards the successful completion of your apprenticeship qualification
You will need ONE of the following: A minimum of two A-Levels at grade B or above, including a mathematical-based subject and a science, technology, engineering or an additional mathematics-related subject / An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at DM (Distinction Merit) level or above / EAL Diploma in an engineering-based subject at distinction level / Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels (T-Levels) at DM or above

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.

About the Training

You will study on a Level 6 Control Systems Engineer degree apprenticeship on a Maintenance Engineering pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Degree Level 6 standard.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
