About the Role

Yorkshire Water offer a comprehensive apprenticeship programme enabling our apprentices to develop their competence to the best of their ability. Our programme includes dedicated mentorship from experts in the field, employability skills sessions, social events along with a dedicated team of Apprenticeship experts monitoring programmes.

As our Instrumentation, Control & Automation Technician Apprentice you will work to develop competence in: 

  • Excellent standards of performance in Health, Safety and Environmental management.
  • Carry out safe isolation to the current IET regulations.
  • Carry out fault finding techniques on control circuits up to the PLC (Programmable logic controller). 
  • Produce maintenance reports. 
  • Program PLCs (Programmable logic controller), including Schneider, Allen Bradley & Mitsubishi equipment. 
  • Maintain, calibrate and certify analytical instrumentation.
  • Fault finding and repair of Safety instrument Loops.
  • Work in accordance with Yorkshire Water Task Lists, Safe working procedures and safe systems of work. 
This role requires you to be able to pass a colour blind assessment as part of the college entry requirements. The role is based outdoors working in all weathers and travel across the Yorkshire region.

The role comes with a progression plan linked to pay increases. There is also the opporutnity to expand on the technical expertise as well as move into leadership roles across the business. 

About the Training

This is delivered through a day release for 2 years at Appris College. Travel to Appris once per week will be required. For the final 2 years the apprentice will focus on building their competence and portoflio of evidence.
