About the Role

NWT are offering a great opportunity for a candidate to take part in a Transport Planning Apprenticeship. The successful candidate will be introduced to the fast paced world of road and rail haulage, dealing with tasks like assisting the planning and co-ordinating transport/freight trains, liaising with drivers and customers to ensure efficient and cost-effective deliveries plus more.

  • Assisting the planning and co-ordinating transport/freight trains
  • Liaising with drivers and customers to ensure efficient and cost-effective deliveries
  • Liaising with railheads to ensure containers are available for deliveries/collections
  • Liaising with in house workshop staff to ensure the fleet is kept compliant and vehicle breakdowns are kept to a minimum and resolved in a quick and timely manner
  • Pre-briefing all drivers to ensure they fully understand their instructions
  • De-briefing all drivers and collecting relevant paperwork including PODs
The vacancy is office based. In the second year of the apprenticeship Leeds College will take you on a one week European field trip to learn about how transport and logistics work overseas in comparison to the UK.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have the experience to continue their career in transport.

About the Training

  • Level 3 Transport Planning Technician qualification upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
  • The candidate will attend Leeds College on a two-week block release, three times a year. Travel expenses are covered.
