About the Role
With RS Decorating - Painters and Decorators operate in commercial properties and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a drive for a successful career in commercial decorating to join us. Please note due to site work and environment applicants need to be 18+ and able to drive.
Painters and decorators use a range of coverings to enhance and protect surfaces. These surfaces could include plaster, metal and wood. If you like practical work and enjoy being artistic, this could be a perfect career for you.
With RS Decorating - Painters and Decorators operate in commercial properties and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings. Sectors include Education & Healthcare, Automotive, Residential & New Build Developments, Supermarkets, Retail, Hotel & Leisure, Office & Banking and Industrial such as airports etc. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a drive for a successful career in commercial decorating.
Working internally or externally for a range of clients they work individually and/or as part of a team applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wallcoverings. They have good knowledge of paint coatings and wallcoverings and understand and comply with statutory, safety and environmental requirements. They are responsible for their own work achieving a high-quality finish at the appropriate pace. They are good problem solvers and communicators and are able to interact effectively with colleagues, clients and associated trades.
To be a painter and decorator, you should have good practical and creative skills. You will need to be able to work carefully and pay attention to detail. Sometimes you’ll need a good head for heights.
Your main tasks would include:
- Measuring surface areas to work out how much paint or wall covering you need
- Stripping off old wallpaper or paint
- Filling holes and cracks and making sure surfaces are level
- Preparing surfaces with primer and undercoat
- Mixing paint to the right shade, either by hand or computerised colour-matching equipment
- Tidying up after finishing a job
- Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a higher-level apprenticeship or full-time employment for the right candidate
About the Training
- Training will be block release at Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer
- You will undertake The Painter and Decorator Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard
- You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed
- You will undertake both on and off the training by a team of industry qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge, and experience
