About the Role
This role provides an opportunity to develop practical accounting skills while working alongside experienced professionals. You will receive training and support throughout your development, with the opportunity to work towards further accountancy qualifications and build a long-term career in the profession.
- Maintaining bookkeeping records for a range of clients
- Processing sales and purchase invoices, expenses and bank transactions
- Completing bank and other account reconciliations
- Assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts, management accounts and information for tax returns
- Supporting the preparation of VAT returns
- Assisting with payroll processing, including gathering payroll information, entering data accurately and checking payroll reports
- Responding to straightforward client queries and escalating more complex issues to experienced team members
- Requesting missing information from clients and keeping client records up to date
- Using accounting, payroll and spreadsheet software
- Maintaining organised and accurate electronic files
- Handling client information confidentially and following professional and data-protection requirements
- Supporting work connected with HMRC and Companies House, under appropriate supervision
- Supporting the wider Brown & Rear team with general accountancy and administrative tasks
- Previous experience working in an accountancy practice (Desirable)
- Completion of AAT Level 3, or currently studying towards it (Desirable)
- Previous experience in an accounts, finance or administration role (Desirable)
Full time employment upon completion.
About the Training
The successful candidate will undertake a full review of their existing skills versus what is required in their new role. First Intuition will then advise on the best apprenticeship programme for them. This will be a structured AAT Apprenticeship programme at Levels 3 (depending on candidate’s experience and knowledge).
A blend of classroom and online training will support the candidate to achieve a well-recognised accountancy qualification which will both help with their new role and potentially lead on to further study.

Brown & Rear is a Sheffield accountancy practice supporting businesses and individuals with bookkeeping, accounts, payroll, VAT and tax. We are looking for a motivated Level 3 Accountancy Apprentice to join our team at 838 Ecclesall Road, S11.
